INDEPENDENCE DAY BRINGS ST ANN’S FIRST JERK FESTIVAL TO OCHI

INDEPENDENCE DAY, Wednesday, August 6, will see St Ann’s first jerk festival at Turtle River Park, Ocho Rios with jerk being the style of cooking and not just for the usual chicken and pork. Organizers of the first St Ann Jerk Festival are planning to make you salivate and enjoy great jerk, fun for the children and a family day that has a big time stage show to end the Independence Day. And the promoters are not new to entertainment. Streets Entertainment are also promoters of Soak, well know to fun lovers in St Ann. “it’s top class entertainment and jerk to just enjoy,” said Rufus from Streets. He said the children will be catered to with a Kiddies village. “Food is a big part of our culture and we are going to show that jerk is hot in St Ann.” On the jerk pits and from the stalls mouthwatering food will be served jerked — chicken, pork, fish, mutton, even conch. The promoters say that with the holiday marking nationhood some traditional folk dances, including Kumina and Bruckins as well as a marching band will be part of the treat on the day. The show in the evening will feature Idonia, Little Hero, Charley Black, Zamuna and other stars with ZJ Liquid being the emcee. “It’s a big family event that should be over by midnight,” says Rufus. Stall were still available up to the time of going to press. Admission $300 for children and $700 for adults.
