Fire at Montego Bay airport

montegobay

Fire fighters were called to the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay on Thursday, October 9, when fire was detected. The fire reportedly began in the electrical room, behind the check-in counters around 1 p.m. but was quickly contained. The airport’s fire fighters as well as the St James fire brigade responded to the blaze that was said to be due to an electrical short circuit. Passengers and workers were  evacuated  from the building while the firemen battled the blaze. Flights were delayed for over an hour as the fire had left sections of the building without electricity.

Several people were seen gathered on the outside discussing the matter. It’s the second airport fire since the start of the year.  Four units responded following which janitorial workers were called in to help with the mopping up exercise from the water used by fire fighters.
