A St Ann family has been left traumatised after a relative died in a motor vehicle collision on the Runaway Bay Main Road in the parish on Thursday, October 9.

Dead is 27-year-old Theron Powell, a hotel worker of Runaway Bay, St Ann. Powell was a bell man at the Grand Bahia Principe Hotel.

Reports from the Runaway Bay police are that about 7:50 pm, Powell was driving a Toyota Corolla motor car towards St Ann’s Bay when on reaching a section of the roadway, his vehicle collided with a Suzuki Grand Vitara, SUV travelling in the opposite direction.

Powell sustained multiple injuries and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, the driver of the Suzuki has been hospital with serious injuries.

Powell’s aunt Dianna Lawrence says the family is in shock and have been traumatised since hearing the news. Ms Lawrence says she is trying to cope with the loss of her beloved nephew but her son who was very close to Powell has not been doing well. “Honestly, I feel empty inside because I basically raised Theron. But even though I am grieving, I have to stay strong for my 15-year-old son who took the news very badly,” Ms Lawrence said.

Powell left behind a four-year-old daughter and is said to have a baby on the way.
