Runaway Bay drug case outlined against 4

drugs

Case against four The court will continue to hear evidence in a drug case against four jointly accused persons when their trial continues on November 25, in the St Ann’s Bay Resident Magistrates Court.

Marvin Carter, Nakeisa Johnson, Dehaima Watkins and Kevin Andrews have been jointly charged for possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, using premises to store ganja and taking steps (preparatory) to exporting ganja.

The crown witness, Detective Corporal Shaneil Miller, who is attached to the Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division began to give his evidence on Friday, October 17, about an incident that occurred on April 14, 2013.

Giving details of the incident, Det Miller said that on the evening of April 14, 2013, a team of police officers including him, carried out a special operation at the residence of Mr. Carter at Lot 118, Mount Edgecombe, Runaway Bay.

Detective Miller said they went to the premises with a written authority under the Dangerous Drugs Act to search for illegal drugs at around 7 pm.

He continued by saying that upon their arrival at the yard, his colleagues cordoned the premises. He proceeded to the front of the yard and stood in front of the verandah on the outside.

“I saw Marvin Carter standing in the living room looking outside at us,” Detective Corporal Miller explained. “He looked in my direction and I called out to him by saying ‘Police! Marvin!’ when he ran off to the back door of the house.”

He then identified Marvin Carter after the Clerk of Court asked him to do so before asking him if he saw Carter in court.

“I immediately alerted my colleagues by shouting that he was running toward the back and I opened the verandah grill which was not locked, ran inside the house giving chase to Mr. Marvin Carter,” the police officer asserted.

Det. Cpl Miller said Carter ran through the verandah, into the living room and into the kitchen and he stopped at the back door through which Carter had exited. He added that he did not see Carter when he got to the back door and he heard what sounded like footsteps on trash and going down through the bushes.

Det. Cpl Miller said he saw a female in the living room of the house and she ran into a bedroom. He went into the room where he saw her and identified himself to her as a police officer, accosted her and she had nowhere to go.

“I asked her her name and she told me Nakeisa Johnson, the detective continued. Corporal Galloway was there.”

He outlined that he asked Ms. Johnson if she lived at the house and she said yes. After which, he informed her that the police was there to carry out a search for drugs.
