The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) held their Heritage Week Church Service at Bezer Holiness Church of God in Bamboo, St Ann on Sunday, October 19.

The event which was sponsored by the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) began at 11 am. The ceremony was attended by several persons to include, the St Ann Custos, Norma Walters, Deputy Mayor Delroy Redway, Member of Parliament for North East St Ann Shahine Robinson, Senior Superintendent of Police for the St Ann Division, Yvonne Martin Daley and several councillors from the parish, to name a few.

The Custos congratulated a member of the church, Shane Ashmeade, on his receipt of the Governor General Achievement Award 2014 in the 18-24 category for St. Ann. “I am very pleased because we represent the Governor General in the parish and so the selection of those representatives is done in our office and we encourage you to support young selves like Mr Ashmeade,” she said.

She thanked the pastor, Reverend Sharon Davidson, office and congregation for having them share in the worship service.

MP Shahine Robinson urged the congregation to not call on the police only when they are in trouble and encouraged them saying that Jamaica is a place where anyone can emerge.

The event also saw addresses from Deputy Mayor Delroy Redway; Councillor Lambert Weir from the Claremont division, who represented the Minister of Youth and Culture, Lisa Hanna and chairman of the St. Ann JCDC Parish Cultural Committee Ransford Davidson.

Beautiful musical renditions were done by the Bamboo Community Choir, Andre Campbell, Bezer Combined Choir and the church service ended with a rendition of the National Anthem by the Zamar Praisers Steel Band.
