Sean Paul has opened up about the circumstances, which led to him leaving Atlantic Records, after a 12-year relationship reportedly went sour. Speaking with Billboard magazine, Sean says he was happy to be off of a label, because he didn’t want to work with someone who “has never written a song, performed on a stage, telling him they aren’t feeling his song.” Sean has also negotiated a release term from VP Records but he could still work with the label to distribute his music. Atlantic Chairman and CEO Craig Kallman, has since released a statement saying Sean is a transformational figure in reggae and a pioneer in bringing dancehall music to the global mainstream and he “wishes him all the best as he begins a new chapter of his phenomenal career.” Atlantic Records signed Sean Paul to the label in 2002 and he released several hit albums under the label including his landmark ‘Dutty Rock’ and his follow-up ‘The Trinity’.
Alkaline vs Kartel
Dancehall Artiste Alkaline has released a single, which is said to be a Vybz Kartel diss. The song, which is now on youtube, has been racking up thousands of views following its release. The song is featured on a rhythm, called ‘Wul Dem Again’. Alkaline stated recently that the song was done out of “Self Defence”. Vybz Kartel is also featured on the rhythm with a song titled ‘Box Lunch’, which is said to be an Alkaline diss.
Waiting Ninja
The murder trial of Dancehall Artiste Ninja Man failed to start just days ago, and has been postponed until April 13 next year. Ninja Man, his son, along with two other men, are on trial for the 2009 murder of Richard Johnson in the Mall Road area of Kingston. The trial was postponed recently because another matter was being heard in the court.
Magnum Sting Clash
At least three of the artistes now being proclaimed as the young guns in dancehall music have shown an interest in being involved in clashes at Magnum Sting 2014. Supreme Promotions, the promoter of the event, has secured the services of Tommy Lee Sparta, his sound-alike, Gage and Ryme Minista. The promoters are attempting to sign Alkaline. In a recent release, Tommy Lee Sparta stated that last year he could have taken on Kip Rich but he was hampered by a broken leg. “Right now mi hear the crow them a cry, so them ready to die. Some man a talk big, so them better can back it. Gage, you better stay home; Alkaline, you seh you a the youngest but we will see who a the baddest,” the deejay said. The Sting stage has been a testing ground over the years, with some of the biggest stars solidifying themselves as stars and becoming leaders of the game.
Mr. Vegas wants more support
He is known for being highly opinionated and dancehall artiste Mr. Vegas is speaking out once again. The artiste took to his Facebook page recently where he vented about the support or lack thereof, for Jamaican-born Anita Antoinette, who is a contestant in this year’s edition of The Voice. Anita Antoinette has soared to the top of the iTunes reggae 100 charts with ‘Rude’ (The Voice Performance). The singer’s rendition of Magic’s ‘Rude’ surpassed the sales of UB40’s ‘Red Red Wine’, that holds the number two spot. In the number three spot is ‘One Day’ by Matisyahu. Occupying positions four and five are ‘Three Little Birds’ and ‘Is This Love’ by Bob Marley and the Wailers.

Birdman
The founder of Cash Money has been accused of screwing over a construction company that redid his Miami mansion for $1 million US. The company is taking Birdman to court so they can get their money. The Zankey Construction Company filed a lien against Birdman claiming they were not properly paid after they did an extensive amount of work on the lavish mansion. The lien details that Birdman didn’t pay two invoices one for $998,700.97 US and the other for $43,049.35,US totalling a little over a million dollars US. They claim Birdman refuses to pay even though he paid $14.5 million US dollars for the mansion that was previously owned by super producer Scott Storch before he went bankrupt.
