Cops focus on week before Brown’s Town High girl found dead

Police say they  have been looking into the one-week period when 16-year-old Brown’s Town High School girl, Tashiek Nugent had gone missing from her home, before she was found dead on New Year’s Eve.In response to a  suggestion to police from the North Coast Times that clues may be found to the girl’s killer if the period she was missing from home was explored, police said they have been tracking her movements in that week from Grand Market Night when Tashiek left her home to when she was found dead at Addison Park, Brown’s Town, St Ann.Police say the last time the girl was seen was at the Brown’s Town  bus park when she was seen “fooling around.” But a senior officer in the Force said they have established that she was with relatives for most of the period when she was gone from home, between December 24 and December 31, 2013They said she had run away from home and was staying with relatives. The Times reported last week that the parents of the girl repeatedly called her and got no response after they instructed her to return home by 8 p.m. on  Christmas Eve when she left to go to the big Grand Market  in Brown’s Town not far from home.Tashiek was reportedly staying at the house of some relatives in Brown’s Town after the Grand Market celebration. However her mother, Sonia Nugent  told The Times  there were no arrangements made to stay at any relative’s house. “I think she disobeyed us because we told her to return home Christmas Eve,” said her mother Sonia Nugent.A post mortem on her body showed that the girl was smothered, or that something was put over her face, until the breath went out of her body. The postmortem reportedly showed there were no marks of violence although some reports said there were scratches around her neck and a blow to a shoulder.“We know who we are looking for,” said DSP Bertel Moore in charge of crime in Area 2. He said people were helping the police but the case was at a sensitive stage and he could not reveal more details. Police also confirmed that the girl had contacted a brother on New Year’s eve, saying she was coming to stay with him but that never materialized and her body was found later that night.
