Lawrence fails to prevent removal as JLP caretaker for NW St Ann

lawrence

It appears Othneil Lawrence has lost his battle to prevent the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) from replacing him as caretaker for North West St Ann.On Friday, December 12, the Supreme Court refused to grant a further injunction brought by Mr Lawrence against his party removing him without following the Constitution. Mr Lawrence says he still enjoys handsome support in the constituency that involves major towns of Brown’s Town, Discovery Bay and Runaway Bay. He says if the party wants to remove him it should go for a delegates vote. However, sources say the JLP has done a constituency review and poll and they should mr Lawrence would not be the best candidate to defeat PNP MP Dayton Campbell in the next elections.Lawrence had named JLP leader, Andrew Holness and JLP general secretary, Dr. Horace Chang in the suit that had resulted in the injunction being given until Thursday. Technical arguments led to the injunction not being extended.Lawrence was represented by Hugh Wildman and the JLP officials by Harold Brady. Senior puisne judge, Glori Smith set the hearing for the claim brought by Lawrence for January 26, 2015. Lawrence is seeking general and aggravated damages against Mr Holness and Dr Chang. The former MP is accusing Mr Holness and dr Chang of breaching the party’s constitution by attempting to remove him without a vote by the delegates. He also claimed that he was being victimised because of his support for Audley Shaw’s failed leadership bid against Holness last year.
