Members of the community and senior policepersonnel from across Area 2 came out on Sunday afternoon, January 18, 2014, for a farewell party at Laughing Waters, St Ann for former head of Area 2, ACP Ealan Powell. Powell returned to the Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB), last week, after leading Area 2, that comprises St Ann, St Mary and Portland, for three years.  The party was one of several functions in honour of Mr Powell, in recent days. On Sunday, Mr Powell thanked his staff for their help over his tenure at Area 2.
He said the police area remained one of the safest parts of Jamaica, contributing only six percent of the murders in Jamaica last year. He said the fall in major crime in the three parishes was 20 percent, higher than the national average of six percent.Mr Powell  repeated one of the sentiments often referenced by him, that the greatest part of the fight against crime and violence would not be with guns, more bullets and vehicles but would be in the minds of people. For that reason he asked the police to be respectful of everyone, and regard each citizen’s rights.
The occasion also served as the introduction of new area head SSP Glenford Hudson, who made remarks and new StMary commanding officer superintendent Stephanie Lindsay. A special presentation of a portrait of ACP Powell was made by the team from Portland, lead by superintendent Wayne Cameron. Also paying tribute were retired SSP Patricia White;  office clerk for Area 2 Sgt. Yvonne Notice: with selections by Charmaine Murray, Roosevelt Crooks and a team from Ocho Rios police. Greetings were brought by Custos Norma Walters and Mayor of St Ann’s Bay, Desmond Gilmore. Also at the head table was SSP for St Ann, Yvonne Martin Daley. Emcees were superintendent Dudley Scott and deputy superintendent Denise McKain. Caterers were Paul Harding caterers.
