17-y-o Dornell Hinds is Ms College of Ocho Rios

Seventeen-year-old food preparation student Dornell Hinds took the crown at the Miss Ocho Rios College Pageant on the rooftop/tennis court of the old Little Pub Ocho Rios, St Ann, Saturday night, February 14, 2014.Ms Hinds, won over seven other contestants who made several appearances on a packed programme of entertainment, emceed by Paul Llewellyn aka Hype.The contestants were: Christine Forrest, Miss Kay’s Bridal Boutique;  Kadeja Greaves, Miss Life Style Boutique;  Odine Campbell, Miss Dolphin Cove; Kerry-Ann Brown, Miss Mongoose Restaurant; Rupertia Wilson, Miss Khaltech, Dornell Hinds, Miss Irie FM; Kativa Campbell, Miss Gena’s / Sofia’s Boutique and Treshana Nelson, Miss Institute of Advanced Technology.After the start with the National Anthem being sung,10-year-old Candice Clark did a Gospel song followed by the welcome by eight-year-old Cavina Atkinson and the opening dance by the contestants.

They then made their first appearance in swim wear and were introduced. That was followed by performances including T Rizzy. One of the stand out performers on the programme for the night was a man doing an impersonation of the energetic African American singer James Brown. His set was special, from his mobile props kit, loud colours and his splits and twists on stage. Also received well was the Stewart Town Dance Group.Sectional prizes in the following categories and their winners are: professional, Christine Forrest; talent piece, Rupertia Wilson; evening wear, Christine Forrest; best swim wear, Rupertia Wilson; best sportswear, Dornell Hinds; Best Smile, Dornell Hinds; best creative wear, Kadeja Greaves; most congenial, Kativa Campbell and most aware, Odaine Campbell. The eight contestants each received a rose, certificates and gift baskets.When the top five were announced, some patrons became stronger in their conviction about who the winner would be. In the top five were: Kerry Ann Brown, Christine Forrest, Dornell Hinds, Odaine Campbell and Kadeja Greeves.In emerging winner, Ms Hinds, received several prizes including $15,000 cash, dinner for two at Mongoose Restaurant, and a gift basked from Bashco. Second place winner Rupertia Wilson, sponsored by Khaltech, received $10,000 cash full body massage and a gift basket and third place winner Christine Forrest received cash of $5,000 plus a full manicure from Serena’s Beauty Spot.Judges were: Shelly Ann Geddes, Delroy Mattadeen and Camoy Ellis
