The accused, Crossdale, had appeared before the court on March 28, April 16 and April 30 and on all three occasions, Crossdale was unable to explain to the court why he wounded Owen Heath.

When Crossdale appeared before the court on Wednesday morning, May 13 before RM Andrea Collins, the magistrate was in a no nonsense mood as she addressed the accused man. “Sir, you told the court that some people should just leave people’s business alone, but you have yet to tell me why you chopped the man, on your many occasions here. Before I go on, let me hear if you have an explanation,” RM Collins said, addressing the accused.

Crossdale had a stern look on his face when he answered RM Collins. “We were in an argument, Your Honour and a so it happen, Your Honour,” he told RM Collins.

RM Collins, who had an expression of disbelief on her face, told him: “Alright, Sir.”

The magistrate then proceeded to write in her court log book and after a minute of writing, she told the accused, Crossdale some words that would linger with him for months to come.

“Sir, you are sentenced to four months imprisonment. You have no valid reason for chopping the man,” said RM Collins, who continued writing all throughout the handing down of her sentence.

There were echoes of disbelief throughout the court, while others felt the sentence was too harsh. One man uttered the words ‘Jesus Christ’ at hearing the sentence.

The accused man, who also had an expression of disbelief on his face, was led out of the courtroom to serve his four month prison sentence.bars
