Hunt for fish gun killer

Police say they are searching for a man from Priory for the murder of a 23- year-old man in the community, near St Ann’s Bay, Thursday morning, June 11.Dead is O’brian Wright, unemployed, of Middle Street, Priory. On the run is a man said to be the relative of Wright, of the same address.Reports to the North Coast Times are that, early Thursday morning, Wright and the other man had a dispute over stolen guns. The two who live in the same yard went about their business after their quarrel. It is further reported that the other man and a relative were going on an errand when he told her to go on without him, turned back and went to a spot where he laid in wait for Wright. Reports are that the man ambushed Wright and shot him with a fish gun. The spear on the gun ripped into right’s upper chest. When Wright fell, the man ran up to him and slapped him several times with the side of a machete.Wright died while being treated at the nearby St Ann’s Bay hospital.Deputy Superintendent in charge of crime in St Ann, Everton Grant confirmed the death of Wright but would not name the main suspect. He said police were actively engaged in searching for the man. DSP Grant said the police interviewed several relatives of the man Friday and made appeals for them to bring in the suspect.Reports to the North Coast Times are that up to Sunday police had gone to a squatter settlement in search of the suspect. It is also said that a relative of the man approached him and offered to accompany him to the police station but the suspect told her he had unfinished business.
