Cop locked up for burglary, larceny

A police officer accused of burglary in Richmond Estate, St. Ann was slapped with housebreaking and larceny charges on Thursday, December 24.
Charged is twenty-nine-year-old Constable Dwight Sangster, of Ewarton in St. Catherine. He was denied bail when he appeared in the St. Ann’s Bay Resident Magistrate Court on Monday, December 28.
The police constable, who is attached to the St. Catherine police division, was arrested on Monday, December 21, in relation to a case of burglary in Richmond Estate, St. Ann.
Police sources say that a house was broken into an item allegedly linking the accused cop to the crime scene was found.
Following this, the constable’s home in St. Catherine was raided, and a number of stolen items were allegedly discovered. The officer was later arrested. One of the victims later positively identified stolen items that were allegedly found in the house of the policeman.
In the meantime, there is a possibility that the cop could face more charges of housebreaking and larceny.
NO BAIL
When Constable Sangster appeared before resident magistrate Vaughn Facey in the St. Ann’s Bay Resident Magistrate Court on Monday, he was denied bail. This was because the constable, who is attached to Guy’s Hill police station, has other matters of similar nature pending before the court.
It is was also revealed in court that Sangster, who has been an officer for the past six years, broke into a house at Richmond Estate, St. Ann on December 19 between 12:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. He entered through the mesh of a window, which he cut open. The complainant was at home at the time of the robbery.
Sangster allegedly stole a laptop bag containing a laptop, vaccination card, hotel card and other items. The items were later found in Sangster’s apartment by the police.
The matter of bail will be discussed on Tuesday, December 29. Sangster was remanded into custody.
