Sentenced for murder

A man who pleaded guilty to a 2013 murder has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment at hard labour.
Forty-seven-year-old Kirk Patrick Jones, a labourer of Roaring River, Steer Town, St. Ann pleaded guilty to the murder of 36-year-old Greg Clarke also of Steer Town. He was sentenced this morning (February 17).

Allegations are that both men had an ongoing dispute over water and electricity. The dispute flared into violence on Sunday, June 30, 2013, when Jones chased Clarke with a machete and chopped him several times.
Clarke later died in hospital.
In handing down the 15-year sentence, Justice Lennox Campbell noted that Jones did not waste the court’s time.
