St Mary man wanted in Manchester murder

  • Stolen phone linked to girlfriend

Police want an Islington man to turn himself in, in connection with the death of popular Manchester businessman Trevor Meikle.

The man being sought is Steve Edwards from Islington, St Mary. Police already have Edward’s girlfriend and his brother in their custody after a phone belonging to a relative of Meikle was used by the girlfriend.

The murder of Meikle, a very popular figure in central Jamaica, has received national attention and condemnation

Meikle was killed during the widespread power outage on Sunday, April 17.

The Manchester police last week were assisted by the St Mary police in arresting Edwards’ girlfriend and his brother at a house in Islington.

This was after a call was made from Meikle’s daughter’s stolen cell phone, reportedly by Edward’s girlfriend. Reports had emerged that it was Meikle’s cell phone, but a relative stated that it was the daughter’s cell phone.

When the woman was interrogated, she said that her boyfriend gave her the cell phone but the boyfriend disappeared.

The woman and Edward’s brother are being held in the Mandeville lockup.

Edwards is still at large and the police are appealing to him to turn himself in.

The police reported that Meikle was killed by a gunman after 9:00 pm when he dropped off his daughter, who was coming from the airport, at her home on Battersea Drive in Mandeville.

The 76-six year-old and his wife, who was reportedly in the car but was not injured, were robbed of items including cash, jewellery, a mobile phone, and debit and credit cards. trevor
