Riu Ocho Rios smash Sandals Ochi 6-2

RIU Ocho Rios smashed Sandals Ochi 6 goals to 2 in the Sandals-sponsored St Ann/ St Mary Business House Football competition on Thursday, August 11 at the Drax Hall Sports complex.On a rainy afternoon and with a damp pitch RIU Ocho Rios managed to pull away with the victory.The first half of the match was a very eventful one with numerous shots, tackles and running by strikers especially from RIU Ocho Rios.The Sandals Ochi team was very energetic in their running, but sloppy in their striking and defending. There were thunderous cheers coming from the complex for RIU.The first goal of the match came in the 13th minute from a very slow, low but accurate shot which tricked Sandals Ochi’s goal keeper to sway in the wrong direction and the ball crept over the goal line. This goal was scored by captain of RIU Ocho Rios, Jared Mignott #4.The second goal of the match came in the 15th minute, from a beautiful cross, approximately 6 ft. away from the corner flag.Omerio Yorke #10 of RIU Ocho Rios saw the opportunity to strike the ball with his head, and the ball went soaring pass Sandals Ochi goal keeper, Harold Henry. RIU supporters smelled victory as their team went on the search for more goals.The Sandals team could be seen in a depressed state, as some substitutes on the bench had their jerseys over their heads.Red cards brought each side down to 10-men.

INCREASED LEAD

Before the second half ended RIU increased their lead when Oshane Allen #11 scored with a powerful shot from just outside the edge of the 6-yard-box. The Sandals goalie at this point seemed exhausted and was replaced with another goal keeper, George Ellis. The first half ended 3-0Coach of RIU Ocho Rios, Andrew Thompson was pleased with his team’s performance but was still urging them to go and get more goals. On the other hand, Coach of Sandals Ochi, Christopher Henry, was displeased when speaking to his players but encouraged them to press on and get more goals.When the second half commenced, both teams performed much better than the first 45 minutes. RIU still hand the dominance with approximately 70% ball possession and they widened the margin on Sandals.Marvin Lesley #7 scored, after receiving a short lofted ball in the 6-yard-box. This made the match 4-0 and made the Sandals supporters go silent in the stands. Sandals Ochi redeemed themselves a little bit with a goal in the 74th minute by Martin Simms who made a low but powerful shot from the 18-yard-box, beating Carlton Russell in the RIU goal.This goal made the RIU players work a little more to cop their 5th goal shortly after. This was scored by Romeo Raymond #3 blasting a lofted shot which tipped into Sandals net.Leon Evans of Sandals Ochi gave his team the second goal by beating through RIU’s defence which had a lapse of concentration in the 85th minute.But this did not bother RIU who went and got their sixth and final goal, when Mario Yorke #10 scored his second.

Jewel beat Bahia

In the second match of the evening Grand Bahia Principe 1 lost to Jewel Runaway Bay 2.

Grand Bahia Principe, one of the favorites in the competition played very well in the first 45 minutes, getting their first goal from the boots of Michael Hinds #11. Jewel Runaway Bay then scored their first by Davin Harrison. This made the match 1-1 at the end of the first half. In the 74th minute Jewel Runaway Bay got their second goal that gave them the victory against the favorites Bahia. The match ended 2-1.
