Police sources are reporting that several people, continue to turn up, claiming to be relatives of slain Archbishop Delroy Bingham and wanting parts of his estate.

Archbishop Delroy Bingham of the Valley Spiritual Healing Temple in Harrison Town, Ocho Rios, St Ann was shot and killed at his home in Discovery Bay early Sunday morning, September 11.

One of his brothers who had been abducted from another of the Bishop’s properties in Cardiff Hall was shot and wounded by the gunmen. He’s still in hospital. (Details are in this week’s issue of the North Coast Times)

It is being reported that several people, some even from overseas, are stating that the archbishop had money at home and they are claiming the money, his vehicles and real estate. “Many people have come forward and are claiming all kinds of things,” said SSP Wayne Cameron, head of St Ann police.

Senior Superintendent Cameron said the police still believe the motive for the killing was robbery. He said the killers reportedly repeatedly asked the archbishop for the “chis“ (or chest or safe) in which they were told money was locked away.

Archbishop Bingham was reportedly shot in the stomach after refusing to give any details of where money was kept.

Police said they removed money from the house and SSP Cameron said he would not give details.

SSP Cameron was among the first police officers on the scene that was visited Sunday by the senior crime officer of the parish, the crime scene officers and St Ann intelligence unit personnel.

Mr Cameron told The Times Wednesday (September 14) that because of the number of people directly involved in the incidents surrounding the murder, there were some delays in completing statements. But he said the investigations were continuing.
