FOREIGNERS IN DOUBLE MURDER IN PORTLAND? • Man shot execution style

Police are not confirming that foreigners or men with accented speech were among gunmen involved in the double murder in Drapers Heights, Portland, Saturday morning, September 24.

One of the men was killed execution style and the other shot as the gunmen left the scene, before dawn.

Dead are:  43-year old Asan Anderson, a Jamaican residing in the Netherlands and 48-eight year old Leroy McCoy of White River, Buff Bay, Portland.

According to the police shortly after 4 a.m., residents of the area saw a grey Toyota Axio parked near a four storey house in the community. Four men were in the car and waited until the occupants of the house arrived.

Three persons later arrived in a car and entered the house. They were Asan Anderson, his wife and her brother. The gunmen reportedly entered after and tied up Anderson’s brother in law and locked him inside a room.
The men reportedly went upstairs and pounced upon Anderson and his wife. They let her go while they talked to Anderson who begged for his life.

CAME FOR FUNERAL

He was shot four times in the face, three times in the chest as well as the hand and leg. The gunmen then exited the house and shot McCoy who was in a pickup. It is not clear what McCoy was doing at the house at the time, as the Andersons and Mrs Anderson’s brother had arrived in another vehicle.

Police Superintendent in charge of Portland, Rex Swearing told North Coast Times they believe McCoy was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Asked if this was a hit, Mr Swearing said he could not speculate but the police were following strong leads.

Reports to The Times are that three of the men wore masks and spoke with foreign accents and the shooter did not wear a mask and was a Jamaican.

North Coast Times also spoke with the superintendent about the reports that three of the men spoke with accents. He said he could neither confirm nor deny this but the police were hearing a lot of things.

It is understood that Anderson had not visited the island in several years and returned four days earlier for a family funeral and was to leave the island sometime this week. He, his wife and brother in law had just arrived home from a wake in Snow Hill.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for East Portland Dr. Lynvale Bloomfield has condemned the double murder and labeled it as horrendous.

Speaking with the North Coast Times Dr. Bloomfield said he pronounced both men dead on the scene and is alarmed by the killings in Portland.
