FALKLANDS MAN MAKES LIST FOR THIRD MURDER Peboo wanted for questioning in St Mary taxi man’s murder probe

Police investigators in St Mary are seeking a man also wanted for two murders in St Ann for questioning in relation to the murder of a taxi operator in the parish on Friday morning, October 7.

The man being sought is Devroy Vernon, alias ‘Peboo’.

According to head of the St Mary police, deputy superintendent Dwight Powell, they believe that Vernon can “assist” with their investigations into the murder of 34-year-old Roderick Williams, popularly known as ‘Kevin’, of Capture Land in Boscobel, St Mary.

Reports from the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF’s) information arm, the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), are that at about 7:15 a.m. on Friday, October 7, Williams parked his car in front of the gate of a passenger’s house. It was while he was awaiting the passenger’s arrival that two armed men approached him.

The police report further stated that the men proceeded to rob Williams of an undetermined sum of money and a cellphone. The men later shot Williams several times and escaped on foot in the area.

CONTACT THE POLICE

When The Times spoke with DSP Powell on Friday, October 14, he explained that the police had picked up a man they believe was the prime suspect and he was being interrogated.

He went on to explain that the police were asking for Devroy Vernon, alias ‘Peboo’ to turn himself over to the nearest police station for questioning.

“We believe he can assist us with our investigations,” explained DSP Powell. He appealed to citizens with any information in relation to the whereabouts of Vernon or any information on the murder of Williams to contact the nearest police.

ALSO WANTED IN ST ANN

Devroy Vernon, who is from Mansfield Heights, also known as Falklands, is also wanted in relation to a murder in the community earlier this year.

It was then reported that at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 26, a man, Brian Henry was relaxing with friends when two men armed with handguns opened fire at the group. Henry and one other man were shot.

Both were rushed to hospital, where Henry was pronounced dead and the other man, identified as a soldier, admitted for treatment.

The police held Howard Bryan, who is the brother of Devroy Vernon. Bryan was charged in relation to the murder of Henry. Bryan was offered bail in the sum of $600,000 on Tuesday, August 16 and was not to return to the Mansfield Heights area, but to reside in St Mary.

However, Devroy Vernon, alias “Peboo” is said to be the main shooter in the incident. Vernon has been on the run since that incident in June.

The St Ann police are also seeking Vernon for questioning in relation to the shooting death of 23-year-old Byron Edwards otherwise called ‘Don’ on Thursday night, September 8 in Falklands.

Reports are that about 8:35 p.m., Edwards was walking along the roadway in the Falklands community when he was pounced upon by armed men who opened gunfire at him. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
