The Issa Trust Foundation, the non-profit arm of Couples Resorts, has donated a total of J$10.3M in hospital equipment and supplies to hospitals including St. Mary and St. Ann during this month.
Included in this donation were twenty autoclaves (also called sterilizers), a variety of surgical equipment and supplies and an ECG machine which was earmarked for the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital.
These modern autoclaves replace outdated models which required frequent repairs and simply sit on a counter and can be used by any medical personnel. A training session was also held at the Annotto Bay Conference Centre, by Ernie Sandona, a biomedical engineer and Issa Trust Foundation volunteer from Michigan, USA, who taught approximately 30 attendees the proper use of the equipment and how to ensure longevity.
The ECG machine donated to the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital is state of the art and training was also held with the doctors and staff.
Additionally, last week, a shipment of new cribs, mattresses, IV poles and baby scales, all donated by Direct Relief, a valued partner of the Issa Trust Foundation, was delivered to the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital with a value of J$1.9M.
