St Ann Masters came out victorious after defeating Harbor View Masters 2-0 in the Barita-sponsored football tournament which was held at the Drax Hall Sports complex, St Ann on Sunday, December 18.

The tournament — which saw a total of six teams — involved a set of matches throughout the day. St Ann Masters was in line for victory from their first face off with Harbor View Masters after beating the team 4 goals to 0. They continued playing well but came to a draw in their second game when the score lines ended 1-1 in their match against Los Perfectos Masters. St Ann Masters then bounced back from that draw when they trashed Portland Masters 5-0.

At the commencement of the finals between Harbor View Masters and St Ann Masters, the match started off very poorly with several sloppy passes and very few shots towards either goal. Despite the slow start coaches of both teams could be seen urging their players to pull together and start making some better passes. St Ann Masters had an edge over Harbor View Masters in their running and control of the ball. No goal came in the first half of 45 minutes.

St Ann Masters appear to have gassed up during the break and in the second half came much better and starting to take shots towards their rival’s goal. Oneil ‘Chippy’ McDonald #25 of St Ann Masters gave his team the first goal of the game in the 48th minute after slickly going through Harbor View’s defence line and making a shot from the six-yard-box. The ball crept in, passing Harbor View’s goal keeper.

St Ann Masters struck again less than eight minutes later, in the 52nd minute. This goal came through Orville Mullings #17. The match ended 2-0.

Shirlion Weir of Portland Masters was named goal keeper of the tournament. Orville Mullings of St Ann Masters was named as the leading goal scorer of the tournament and Leon Hutchinson of St Ann Masters was the player of the tournament.
