Accused killed made call to ex-girl friend while in lock-up saying he would soon get bail

criminal-lawA man accused of fatally stabbing the lover of his ex-girlfriend, has been remanded into custody.

There was no chance of a bail application for the accused man, Akeem Rose, as he had been denied bail before due to a phone call made while he was in custody telling an eyewitness, his ex-girlfriend, that he would soon receive bail.

These developments were revealed when Rose appeared before the St Mary Parish Court on Thursday, January 5.

Rose was charged in connection to the murder of 28-year-old Marvin Stennett, a labourer of Kidd Land in Mason Hall, St Mary.

Reports from the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) are that at about 9:45 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, Stennett was standing along the roadway in Kidd Land, Mason Hall with a woman — later identified to be his girlfriend — when a man approached with a knife.

The man, who had later been identified by the police as the ex-boyfriend of Stennett’s girlfriend, Akeem Rose, stabbed Stennett several times and later escaped.

The female was unharmed in the incident.

Stennett was taken to the hospital where he died.

When the matter appeared before the court last Thursday, the crown prosecutor revealed that the post-mortem report was now available. However, a Communications Forensic and Cybercrime Unit (CFCU) report and a scene of crime report were outstanding in the matter.

Rose’s attorney told acting senior parish judge Yvette Wentworth-Miller that he had intentions of making a bail application for his client.

However, the prosecutor revealed to the judge that Rose had previously been denied bail when he had another attorney in the matter.

She further indicated the CFCU report was the basis of Rose being denied bail. It is alleged that while he was in custody, Rose made a call to an eyewitness in the case and told her that he “would soon get bail.”

This eyewitness was the girlfriend of Stennett, who was stabbed by Rose.

When Judge Wentworth-Miller asked if charges had been laid in regards to the phone call that was made in custody, the prosecutor stated that she had no information.

The judge told Rose’s attorney that once the CFCU report is on the case file, then he could make a bail application.

In the meantime a hearing date in Rose’s case was set for March 2. His attorney will receive the files in the case by late January.

Rose was remanded into custody until March.
