Man protecting employer’s property murdered

ALEXANDER

A man, who tried to apprehend a robber, who invaded his employer’s residence, was stabbed to death on Monday, February 6.

A suspect remains in the custody of the St Mary police as investigations continue.

Dead is 28-year-old Alexander Robinson, popularly known as ‘Alex,’ who was a labourer and farmer.

Robinson was found stabbed to death on his employer’s property in Goshen on the St Ann side of the St Ann/St Mary border. However, the St Mary police are investigating. He was allegedly stabbed while in pursuit of a robber.

Robinson’s older brother, Jurres Kelly, who said he raised Robinson, is mourning his loss.

“Mi lose a brother two years and two months ago when him did drown. This the second brother mi lose right now… Him never deserve this,” Kelly said in an interview with North Coast Times last Tuesday.

Kelly explained that it was about 6:30 a.m. last week Monday that he got the call from one of his sisters that Robinson had been stabbed. He later drove out and picked up another brother in Gayle and went to the scene of the crime. When he saw the police and the crowd, he knew that there was no doubt that his brother had died.

MEN ROBBING HOUSE

Kelly explained that he learned from one of Robinson’s co-workers about the events earlier that morning.

Robinson, his co-worker, two women, along with four children occupied one of two houses on a property on which they worked. Kelly said that his brother did farming and looked after animals on the property.

It was sometime at about 5 a.m. that Monday that Robinson looked through a window and realized that there were robbers inside the house of his employer, on the property. Robinson’s boss was not at the house at the time of the incident.

“Them (his coworkers) tell Alex (Alexander Robinson) not to go, but Alex insist that he was going,” Kelly explained.

THE CHASE

Robinson’s other male coworker, along with himself went to investigate and later one of the robbers was seen jumping a fence on the property.

The robber later fell, while going over and a pendant and a phone fell from him.

However, the robber was able to get up and run off.

According to Kelly, he was told that his brother jumped the fence as well and along with his coworker, they both chased the robber.

Kelly explained that he was told that the robber jumped over a second fence and Robinson continued his pursuit, but the co-worker went another direction in pursuit of apprehending the robber.

COLLIDED

According to Kelly, it appeared that Robinson and the robber collided in a pond.

However, it is unclear what took place after that alleged collision or how stab wounds were inflicted below Robinson’s navel.

Kelly that the male coworker said he found Robinson about half an hour later in the water and he managed to pull him out. “Him (the co-worker) said Alex look up at him and he didn’t hear anything more from him,” Kelly recounted.

Kelly said he learnt that a pair of pants suspected to be belonging to the alleged robber was found. It contained some money and another phone.

WELL POPULAR

Kelly explained that his brother was a very popular person and several persons in Gayle were saddened at his killing.

“Him (Robinson) is a everybody person. Him nuh hurt anybody. Him kind… Him is a everybody person,” Kelly pointed out.

Robinson did not have any children.

“Him well popular in Gayle. A lot of people just saddened by his death,” Kelly added.

Kelly said that the last time he heard from his brother was on Saturday night, February 4, at about 8 o’clock. He said that they had a conversation on the phone and he asked Robinson to pick some Jackfruit for him to take to the market.

“I didn’t get to see him before,” was all Kelly could say as he came to terms with the reality that his brother had been murdered.

Kelly explained that Robinson’s boss has promised to take responsibility for the funeral arrangements as he said that he was protecting his property at the time.

“The boss say that out of all the persons him ever employ, Alex was the best one him ever have,” Kelly said.

In the meantime, head of the Area Two police, assistant commissioner (ACP) Fitz Bailey said on Monday that he was aware that a suspect was in the custody of the police.
