St Mary man to face Circuit for murder of Manchester girlfriend

The case of a man implicated in the murder of his Manchester girlfriend has been committed to the July sitting of the St Mary Circuit Court.

These developments took place in the case involving the accused man, Patrick Moodie, alias ‘Chen’ or ‘Ramas’ of Mason Hall district in St Mary, on Thursday, April 20 in the St Mary Parish Court.

Moodie was charged with the 2016 murder of 30-year-old Samantha Lindsay, also known as Trudy from Chudleigh district in Manchester.

Moodie was being sought, for close to two months, as a person of interest in relation to the murder until his capture in July of last year.

At the hearing, senior parish judge Yvette Wentworth-Miller explained that having read the documents on the case file in chambers, she was satisfied that they conformed to the Committal Proceedings Act (CPA).

Judge Wentworth-Miller further told Moodie that having read the statements on file, she was satisfied that a prima facie case had been made out against him.

The case is set to be heard on July 3.

Moodie was reoffered bail in the sum of $500,000 with surety. In addition, he is also to surrender his travel documents and a stop order also attached.

Moodie was also to report daily to the Port Maria police station as a condition of his original bail offer, but the attorney in the case, Yannica Gabbidon, who held proceedings for attorney, Ernest Smith, asked that the days be reduced.

Gabbidon explained to Judge Wentworth-Miller that her client was finding it difficult to report daily to the police because of the expense.

The reporting days were later reduced for Moodie to report to the police on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Police investigators believed that Samantha Lindsay was on her way to visit Moodie at the time of her death. It is further understood that Lindsay, who had been working in St Ann for some time, had a relationship with him.

Police reports are that residents heard explosions at about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday night, May 22, in the Grants Town area in St. Mary. The police were summoned and Lindsay was found on the ground with a bullet wound to the head. Lindsay died at hospital.

Moodie was on the run after allegedly committing the murder and was picked up on Saturday, July 30, 2016 in Gaza, Steer Town, St Ann by the St Ann police.

He was later handed over to the St Mary police and charged with Lindsay’s murder.
