17-y-o in remanded for fatally stabbing boyfriend over phone charger

The 17-year-old girl, who was accused of stabbing to death her boyfriend, allegedly over a phone charger, has been remanded into custody at a place of safety.

The identity of the teenager cannot be released as she is a juvenile.

She is accused of killing her lover, 23-year-old Akeem Berbick, alias Bum Bum, a farmer of Fowler Town, Alexandria in St Ann, at a house in Eight Miles, near Claremont in St Ann late last month

The accused teen made her first court appearance in the Claremont’s Children Court, where she was remanded to reappear in court on June 6.

The Times has learned that the teen had previously escaped from a place of safety, but she was not located.

The information arm of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said that the incident occurred at about 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 25..

Local police stated that Berbick and his 17-year-old lover had a dispute over the use of a charger. Police say the dispute later escalated and the teen used a knife to stab Berbick multiple times. He succumbed to his injuries at the Alexandria hospital.
