2 IN CUSTODY FOR GUNS SEIZED IN ST ANN, ST MARY

Two men from the north coast were among four persons taken into police custody following the seizure of four firearms and 35 assorted rounds of ammunition across four parishes on Friday, July 14.

One man from St Mary has been charged, while the other man from the garden parish of St Ann is being held in police custody pending charges being laid.

Charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition is 35-year-old Prince Irving, labourer of Canoe Pond, Oracabessa, St. Mary.

In a release from the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), they said that Irving was held in Port Maria, St. Mary about 4:30 p.m.  Friday.

Further reports are that “detectives from the Narcotics Division were on operation in the car park when Irving was accosted and searched.  A bag he was carrying was also searched and found to contain one Bersa SA 9mm pistol and seven 9mm cartridges. He was then taken custody.”

CCU said that Irving is expected to appear before the St Mary Parish Court to answer the charges.

The release also stated that the gun find in St Ann took place at about 11:20 p.m.

The release further stated that “the detectives in the St. Ann were on special operations in the Mansfield Heights community when two men were searched. One .380 Smith and Wesson pistol containing eight .380 rounds of ammunition was taken from the waistband of one of the men. He was subsequently arrested. The other man escaped.”

The identity of that man is being withheld pending further investigations.
