Man in custody accused of cursing, threatening cop

A man in custody over a disputed motor cycle has charges slapped against him for allegedly using vile language against a woman D/C and threatening another police officer.

The accused man involved in the ‘science bike’ case appeared before the St Ann parish court on a new charge last Tuesday, August 15.

Brandon Stanley is the man who was recently charged for using abusive langue to a female district constable and threatening another officer. Both offences were committed while Stanley was in police custody.

Reports are that on July 12, Stanley was being brought back to the lock up from the St Ann’s Bay court house when the incident occurred.

It is alleged that Stanley said, “wonda wah dis yah gyal yah a do inna police vehicle… dutty police gyal, tru yuh switch u a gwaan like u a smaddy. A poor gyal dem deh.”  Stanley was said to have been referring to the district constable.

Stanly denied the allegations. He said he did not use those words to the district constable but admitted he did try to speak to her.

According to Stanley, he knew the district constable and was surprised when he saw her in the service vehicle. He says she was attired in plain clothes and not her uniform and that he did not know she was a police. “Mi did just ask her wah she a do inna the car cause me know har and she a seh mi nuh fi talk to her and mi nuffi say nutn at all, suh mi tell har seh she cyaa tell me fi stop talk. Mi neva threaten har still,” Stanley said.

Presiding judge Vaughn Facey in trying to assess the incident, asked Stanley if he was outraged by the district constable’s statement. Stanley in response said he was not angry and “mi neva really tek it as a diss”.

Further allegations are that Stanley also threatened to kill an officer. It is reported that Stanley told the officer “when mi come a road mi mus kill yuh.” The moments leading up the threat, however, are not known by The Times.

Stanley was on bail in the other matter he has before the court, but had his bail revoked after breaching his bail conditions.

Since Stanley was remanded into custody, this case was given priority for trial on September 21.
