DOUBLE MURDER IN OCHI

Police are saying they have no motive for a rare double murder that occurred in Ocho Rios last week.

Dead are 39-year-old Aldain Smith, otherwise called ‘Mack’ and 25-year-old Vanessa Murray.

The murders have had people talking, especially against the background of three chopping/stabbing deaths in Ocho Rios central over a one-week period two weeks ago.

Double murders are very rare in St Ann, and events surrounding this one have led to many questions.

The bodies of those killed were not discovered until Friday morning, October 13, although police are indicating they were slain maybe five days earlier, on Sunday evening, October 8.

The murders took place in a very depressed section of Mansfield Heights, better known as Falklands. The densely settled area where the two were killed in a wooden house is known as Afghanistan.

Police have continued to point out that the structure of the informal community makes it difficult for them to properly police Falklands that has been long identified as a hot spot for crime.

A release from the CCU on the killings said detectives assigned to the St. Ann Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are investigating the deaths of two persons at their home in Mansfield Heights, Ocho Rios in the parish on Sunday, October 8.

Reports are that about 11:45 p.m., residents heard explosions and did not alert the police. However, about 8 a.m., on Friday, October 13, residents went to make checks. During their search, they smelled a foul odor coming from the house. On the arrival of the police, the bodies were seen in a room in a state of decomposition. The scene was processed and the bodies removed to the morgue pending post mortem examinations.

The Ocho Rios Police are asking anyone with information that can assist with their investigations to contact them at 974-2469, Police 119 emergency number or the nearest Police Station.
