St James police head among several police commanders transferred

The police commanders of three north coast parishes are to be transferred.

They are head of the St James police, senior superintendent Marlon Nesbeth, superintendent Rex Swearing of the Portland division and superintendent Clive Blair of the Trelawny division.

The three are among several other divisional commanders transferred by police commissioner George Quallo.

Senior Superintendent Wilfred Campbell, who now heads the Kingston Central Police Division, will have the difficult task of heading St James, where two hundred and fifty-four people have been murdered in St. James since the start of the year. Thirteen of those were cut down in the parish in the past six days. A total of two hundred and sixty-four persons were murdered in St, James last year.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Rex Swearing, who currently heads the parish with the lowest murder tally for this year – Portland with five –, will be going to the Marine Division. Superintendent Clive Blair has been re-assigned from Trelawny to St. Andrew South police division.

The changes take effect on November 10.
