Life imprisonment for killing Ochi girlfriend

A 21-year-old man charged for murdering his ex-lover in Ocho Rios, St Ann will spend the next 15 years in prison.

Ryan Edwards of Steer Town in St Ann was today Friday sentenced to life imprisonment, for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, 20-year-old Alissa Garey.

He will be eligible for parole after serving at least fifteen years in prison.

Edwards was sentenced by high court judge Dale Palmer, in the St Ann Circuit Court today. His sentencing had been scheduled for yesterday Thursday, after he pleaded guilty to murder, two weeks ago.

Edwards was charged after he stabbed his ex-lover to death, just moments after she had gone to the Ocho Rios police station, to make a report about him, last year December

    A minimum 15 year sentence is an insult. If he qualifies for parole, he’ll still be young enough to start a family and enjoy life. No such luxury for the victim whose family will probably never recover from this tragedy. The only positive thing is the speed in which the criminal conviction was dealt with, aided, no doubt, by a murderer only too willing to plea guilty if the trade off was a possible 15 years incarcerated .
