Cop on murder charge in St Mary makes court appearance

The policeman charged with the murder of a St Mary entertainer remains in custody, following his appearance in the St Mary Parish Court on Monday, September 3.

Police Constable Oshane Thompson, 24, is to return to court Wednesday, September 6, to answer to charges for the May 2017 murder of 31-year-old Kriston Pearson, also call InstaBoss, of Charles Town, St Mary and Exchange in Ocho Rios, St Ann.

The case was not heard Monday as several documents were outstanding. Thompson’s attorney Peter Champagnie indicated to the court that he would be applying for bail when the matter is called up on Wednesday.

Pearson’s mother, Carolyn Proudlove who has been pushing for justice in the death of her son, told the North Coast Times that she was satisfied with how things were going and especially with the effort of INDECOM.

Representatives of the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) were in court and have indicated they will oppose bail.

Pearson was shot dead at a party in Port Maria, May 7, 2017, during an altercation with Thompson. The cop later resigned from the Force and went to the US. INDECOM made representations to US authorities resulting in Thompson being deported last week.
He was arrested and charged on his return to Jamaica.
