Another great way to learn more about yourself is to use online assessment tools to learn about your personality traits, temperament, values etc. All you have to do is to type in your search engine the key words such as: personality traits assessments, for example, and you will see many assessment tools to choose from.
Who says that research is only to gather information about others? Do some research on yourself. You can start by asking yourself, “What do I value most? What negative habits do I have? What is preventing me from achieving my goals? What is making me depressed? What makes me happy? What leisure activities do I enjoy? What are my achievements? Go ahead, add more questions that you would want answers to.
After you do your narrowing down of what you want answers to then write down the steps or actions you will take to get the answers to your question/s answered. Some strategies you could use include: journaling, taking of pictures, recording of your conversations, logging of your activities, daily reflection, asking a friend to keep track of your activities etc.
Naturally, you will need to assess or analyze your findings to see what it reveals about you. In order to analyze or assess your findings, you need to review all the information that you gathered about yourself and decipher what it is saying about you. After you get the answer to your questions, you may choose to take action to improve or correct what you found. This is where you create a personal action plan to correct unwanted thoughts or behaviors.
So there you go! The above outlines some strategies you could use to learn more about you. But back to where I started; what are the benefits of learning about yourself? Read my next article to find out more….in the next issue of the North Coast Times.
